Link Balancers are typically installed between the modems/routers and the gateway device, which is usually a firewall.  Other gateway devices can be used instead of firewalls or more than one gateway can be used to share the available bandwidth for performance and failover capabilities.

Some environments may require more customized configurations such as balancing private networks and MPLS networks, where the Elfiq unit can be installed behind the firewall.
