SitePathMTPX WAN bandwidth virtualization is an innovative feature enabling point to point application acceleration and resilience, creating the opportunity for organizations to maximize multisite communications and services. This feature is commonly used for site to site VPN tunnels and VoIP trunks, ensuring communications at all times.  Elfiq offers a free white paper detailing this feature.  Common uses include bonding multiple ISPs into a single virtual line or replace/complement MPLS and leased lines for cost-effective communications and reduce costs, WAN acceleration and optimization projects.



Elfiq has extended its primary link concept to create SitePathMTPX, where the endpoint devices such as firewalls require no modifications in implementing Elfiq products. Once installed, each Link Balancer in a multisite deployment can create multiple “paths” between each ISP link creating the opportunity for resilient communications. Should an ISP link fail, other links with multiple paths keep the communications active and uninterrupted.



Elfiq Link Balancers keep metrics and real time bandwidth usage on all links and path combinations, SitePath technology exchanges this information using encrypted communication between the two balancers. With those metrics, it is easy to evaluate the effective bandwidth on all possible paths between two points. The effective bandwidth calculates in real time the maximum possible throughput for a specific path.





The SitePathMTPX can operate with multiple algorithms to balance traffic across two endpoints. Each SitePathMTPX relationship between two sites can be configured differently than the one set up for another site from the same Elfiq unit.

The four balancing algorithms are:

  • Weight First Algorithm (WFA): this algorithm will use a SitePath based on its weight and available bandwidth
  • Best SitePath First (BSFA): this algorithm selects the most appropriate SitePath based on statistics and cumulative metrics.
  • Round Time trip First Algorithm (RTFA): this algorithm dynamically selects the SitePath based on round time trips (RTT) of packets.
  • Multiplexing (MTPX): this algorithm enables bandwidth virtualization by aggregating multiple paths into one virtual path for increased throughput. It requires links of similar specifications and performance for optimal use.




Monitoring the alternate paths and their respective effective bandwidth allows to dynamically redirect the point to point transfers (VPN, VoIP or other) through the best available path without renegotiating the VPN tunnel or VoIP session. SitePathMTPX makes your point to point communication completely resilient best available path(s) according the selected SitePathMTPX aglorithm.
