Exposed underground telecom cables

We were walking to the office and saw a construction site (downtown Montreal) and had a rare opportunity to see the network of telecom cables exposed.  This is a point of failure where in these pipes most carriers deploy their infrastructure and regardless of which carrier you connect to you might have the same vulnerability point.

When you choose your carriers, it is recommended to have connection points at different CO's to prevent having all your ISPs in one basket.  DSL Reports (for US organizations) offers a decent search tool including the distance from COs.
