Top 10 cloud outages of 2011 (so far) and how to protect yourself

CRN Magazine has a very interesting piece on cloud outages which happened so far in 2011.  Many big names like Amazon, Google, Intuit and Microsoft suffered downtime, therefore their users were unable to use their respective services.  Of course Elfiq cannot prevent these issues from happening at the cloud-level but at the customer site level, it is a different story.

The #1 reason why organizations will not be able to use cloud services is connectivity to the Internet.  This is the lifeblood of delivering cloud-based services to users, no Internet no cloud.  And of course this translates to hard financial losses.  If you use hosted email, and you cannot access it, how many employees will "stop" working?  In an environment where most employees are in cubicles, you can play "what a mole" when an outage happens.
