Internet Access Outage in Australia

Last week on February 23rd a routing issue between two ISPs in Australia (Dodo and Telstra) caused 35 minutes of downtime for their users.

For any organization in any region around the world, the reality is simple: how long can you operate without suffering financial losses?  35 minutes may be short for some, but a lifetime for others.

To prevent this from impacting your network, Elfiq recommends the use of 2 or more ISPs using different technologies (like a 10Mbps fiber and a cable modem) and when possible adding a 3G or 4G for maximum uptime for critical applications.  A good activity is to locate and plan for key points of failure you can control.
