Elfiq Operating System additional functionality
The Elfiq Operating System (EOS) is composed of multiple features that provide the ability to deliver high-performance projects and complex solutions.
To complement the core feature set, the following features are included, making the Elfiq Link Balancer product line the most technologically sophisticated platform of its kind on the market.
With these features, new levels of performance, uptime and resilience can be achieved while provinding a lower cost of ownership.
DHCP & PPPoE
Link Support |
The Elfiq Operating System supports these types of carrier links on all models, for both static and dynamic IP address-based links. For organizations looking to deploy inbound balancing, static IP address-based links are required.
Ethernet Bonding |
This feature provides the ability to join two Ethernet ports to deliver incremental throughput. Ethernet Bonding is also known as EtherChannel, link aggregation (LAG), link bonding and 802.3ad.
Ethernet Bonding is available on the LB-800E and higher models.

NAT-Based features: |
In NAT-based balancing, IP addresses from alternate links must be associated with primary link IP addresses.
Block NAT
Block NAT makes it possible to associate an entire segment of IP addresses with another one in a single command. For example if both your links have 32 IP addresses you can associate all 32 IP addresses from the alternate link with their corresponding IP addresses (in order) on the primary link.
Many-to-one NAT
Masquerading makes it possible to use multiple source IP addresses on the primary link and use a single IP address on an alternate link for link balancing. The Elfiq unit ensures that no port conflict occurs.
PAT
TCP session port numbers can also be NATed.
Probe |
The Probe feature is designed to give network admimistrators a real-time view of the traffic being managed by the Elfiq Link Balancer. It is very useful for diagnosing which traffic is saturating a link and for reporting purposes.
Session Guard
Elfiq Link Balancer's Session Guard feature will drop packets (shunning) coming in from the Internet in order to protect itself against Denial of Service (DoS) attacks.
Session persistence |
The Elfiq Link Balancer products will keep a session which should not be balanced on the same carrier link to prevent the session from being reset and causing data loss.
TAG Balancing |
TAG Balancing is designed to support balancing with multiple private ISP links through which NAT is not possible. For best performance, it is recommended to have an Elfiq unit at each end of the private link. This feature is available on the LB-550E and higher models.
VLAN support |
VLAN support makes it possible to configure an 802.1q trunk on a physical network interface in order to dynamically create logically isolated networks for your links. This is especially useful in failover (high availability) mode or if your links can not share the same layer 2 space (for example multiple DHCP cable or DSL links can not be connected on the same network).

Watchdog Timer |
The Elfiq Operating System includes a Watchdog Timer to prevent a unit from paralysing traffic. |
